Has anyone ever gotten a CE error message while attempting to create an ActiveSync partnership that says the following?
"Cannot start communications with the desktop computer. Remote Networking could not start due to a critical error (Error 608). Please connect your device. If the problem persists, restart your device using the instructions provided by the manufacturer."
This error shows up as soon as I run 'repllog.exe' on the Bitsy and no ActiveSync partnership gets established. I have created an ActivSync partnership several times in the past, but just recently I started seeing this error. My efforts to find out anywhere what error #608 is have to date been fruitless.
Are you attempting to connect via USB or Serial? Making a serial connection using the device's COM1: port is the most reliable way of connecting for testing purposes.
After speaking with Dave, it turns out that he changed the image version on his CE device but had not erased the persistent registry on the device. It appears that ActiveSync was unable to resolve the differences between information about the device it had stored on the PC and what the device itself had. Erasing the persisted registry fixed the problem.
