Apparently using adsload.reg will not set/change file associations to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT (goes to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE anyway).
What's the recommended way to set persistent file associations?

Try using
ADSCopy
with
ADSReg
. By placing ADSCopy in your \FlashFX Disk\Startup folder, you can effectively persist any registry setting.
