Q: I want to use the Graphics Client SA-1100 I/O ports for clocked data communications. How fast can I expect the data to be transmitted?

The data rate for transmission depends significantly on your application and if other processes are running while you are transmitting. As a reference, a simple CE VC++ application running on a 220MHz Graphics Client using LQ64D343 configuration 700110-4137B can toggle a single SA-1100 bit about every 6 or 7 microseconds using the CE WriteFile() function. This best-case scenario results in a clock rate of about 75kHz. For high-speed communications, Ethernet, serial, PCMCIA and USB are the best options.
