For those of you interested in trying out CE.NET on your development systems, we now have a Beta release image available for the Bitsy.
As a beta, this image is not suitable for release or production but it will provide you an opportunity to see and test CE.NET in your environment and with your applications.
We have also exported a beta SDK for this image to allow you to develop and debug applications for the platform. Before installing the SDK, you must have either eVC 4.0 or the SDE tech preview installed on your development PC. eVC 4.0 comes with Platform Builder 4.0 and can also be ordered from Microsoft. The SDE tech preview was provided as a hand-out by Microsoft at several shows. It is no longer available, so if you don't already have it, you will have to wait for the beta release.
While these products are provided as-is and are not supported through our normal channels, we greatly encourage feedback on what does and does not work as well as what you would like to see either included or excluded from our initial release build.
Please provide feedback to either product by replying to this topic.
NOTE: This image is 11.5MB in size, but you must set your ADSLOAD.HWT file as though it is a 14MB build. See the included readme for the exact settings.
10-Dec-2007 Beta build no longer available
Known Problems:- CAB Files do not expand and install when double-tapped
- eVB Runtimes are not included (though the CE 3.0 runtimes from the HPC 2000 SDK appear to work fine when manually copied and registered)
- Screen sounds currently are running through our CE 3.0 driver
- Most power management finctions, including Suspend Mode are not yet implemented

- No Audio - ActiveSych COM3 does not default even though it says it is, it will only connect once selected in PC Connection. - FlashFx Disk accessible but you can't copy anything to it. - After a sleep the system does not wake up properly, display shows stripped horizontal black and white lines. - Will it be able to support Macromedia Flash Player? |

Any thoughts on what the status of PCMCIA peripherals is for the current Bitsy CE .Net build? The Ethernet card I use (Linksys PCM100) which works fine under the 3.0 build never even gets power in the socket under the .Net build.

The power issue is something I have not seen, but thanks for reporting it along with the card make. We recently got a batch of QFEs from Microsoft for their code, plus there were some substantial driver changes from 3.0 to 4.0, so there are a lot of potential places this may be coming from.
Our engineering team will be looking at all of these reported issues as we continue to test and stabilize the first release image. We will have a release candidate within the next few weeks.
