Does CE support emulation? We've got a couple people working on this project now and don't have enough development systems to go around. We're using CE 3.0, but will probably use .NET by the time our product is ready for market.

Thanks!

Ana

Hi Ana. CE does have emulation. It works great for user interface testing, though you can't emulate specific hardware (e.g. I/Os, CF/PCMCIA slots, etc.).

For CE 3.0, use the HPC 2000 SDK. Create a project with ARM and x86 support, then select the emulator as a target device.

For CE 4.1(.NET), the standard SDK includes an emulator.

Sorry, but I made a mistake here. The CE 3.0 SDK (HPC2000) does NOT include an emulator. CE 2.11(HPC Pro) and 4.x both do include an emulator. I've struck out the original text, above, so there's no further confusion about this.

New product development should strongly consider using CE 4.x, as CE 3.0 is being phased out.

Note that while you could use the 4.x emulator for CE 3.0 emulation, you could not use the new 4.x features (like structured exception handling) and could not perform remote debugging with a CE 3.0 device.

My recommendation: Make the move to CE.NET!
