I am trying to upgrade to CE.NET for the Bitsy.
I've downloaded the image (700111-1120A_Bitsy_32MB_CE.NET_v411_IE_15MB.zip), the reg and hwt (700111-1747A_Bitsy32_LQ64D343_CE.NET_15MB.zip) and am using rom version 1.75.
Upon boot, I get a dialog box title 'Unidentified PCCard Adapter', requesting that I 'Enter the name of the driver for this PCCard'. A default 'Driver Name' of 'Unknown card in socket 2' has been entered in the input box for me.
I hit OK to accept this, then I decided to search the registry for the 'new' entry, so I could make a 'permanent' change in ADSLoad.reg.
Where is the soft input panel? I looked for softkdb.exe in Windows, but couldn't find it. It is difficult to do a search in the registry when you can't type in a value.
So besides the missing soft keyboard, what's with the 'Unidentified PCCard Adapter'?
Also, there are a number of 'new' (at least to me) messages output to the debug port at boot. Please put your blessing on these messages.

Susan and I discussed the issues in this post. Here's a summary:- Unidentified Card in Socket 2
This is an odd one. They have a rev C Bitsy and rev 1 personality board running CE.NET 4.12. Using the same hardware here, I couldn't reproduce the problem. It could be a hardware issue. They're going to swap persoanlity boards to see if the issue follows the personality board or the Bitsy.
- Soft input panel
The softkbd.exe application of CE 3.0 is not used in .NET. There's now an icon in the system tray that looks like a pen lying across a rectangular form. Double-tapping that icon will bring up the soft keyboard.
- Messages
The new messages are normal for CE.NET

Regarding the 'Unidentified Card in Socket 2'. The problem will follow all Bitsy's loaded with CE.NET and all Bitsy personality boards if I have our data acquisition board plugged into the personality board. As soon as I yanked the cable from the personality board, and rebooted the device, the hostile message box went away. (Of course, this was not discovered until after I loaded everything onto a different Bitsy and a different personality board.)
(As was explained to me, the card detect lines are being pulled low when our board is plugged in, therefore the software believes that there is a compact flash card.)
Curious side note, though. No dialog box appeared when I had the BitsyPlus loaded with CE.NET, even though I had our data acquisition board physically cabled to the personality board.

Thanks for the update, Susan. Maybe the Bitsy/Bitsy Plus difference has more to do with the builds than the hardware.
On the Bitsy Plus it's possible to disable the second slot(the CompactFlash socket) in the HWT file(see Topic 828). While there are a few CE 3.0 "noCF" builds for the Bitsy (which also disable Socket 2), we don't have such a CE.NET build for the Bitsy. |

That's probably why I didn't see the message on the BitsyPlus. I forgot I used that entry in the HWT.
Regarding a 'no-CF' Bitsy CE.NET build...when do you anticipate having one available? Alternatively, could a comparable Bitsy HWT entry be made available?
Thanks Drew. |
