Q: What is involved in changing the display on a Eurotech StrongARM system?

There are three elements you'll have to take care of when changing displays:

1. Display cable: There is no standard, yet, for display connectors. Almost every panel uses a different connector or pinout, and signal mapping on the XScale and StrongARM CPUs depends on the display mode (mono/color passive, dual passive, active, etc) (And worse, the StrongARM maps signals differently between active mode 8/12 and 16bpp.) Make sure you use the right cable for your display.

2. Jumper settings: Jumpers on the board select panel voltage, data voltage and, for passive displays, set the source for the panel contrast voltage (Vee or Vcon).

3. Panel drivers: The display drivers configure the StrongARM to drive the display in the mode and at the refresh rate you want. In Windows CE, you can update ADSLOAD.HWT and ADSLOAD.REG files for a particular panel without rebuilding the image. Linux uses the REGISTER.TXT file. Other operating systems may require you to rebuild the image for each display type.

For further reading about displays on Eurotech products, see the display topic index.

For details about cables and cable manufacturers, see topic 1391.

Consult the ADS list of supported displays to see what panels ADS has already configured for its products.

I am changig from the Sharp LQ104V7DS01 to a NEC NL6448BC33-50 on the Bitsy+.

Don't want to re-invent the wheel. Do you have a register.txt example that may be close for starters?

thanks

Thanks, Bruce. As listed on the supported panels list (link above), we've done the NL6448BD33-46, which I believe acts the same electrically as the -50.

We'll email you the settings we have for the Bitsy Plus for you to test.
