Q: I have an ADS StrongARM product running a different operating system. I want to convert to Windows CE. How can I do this?
To convert your system to Windows CE, you will probably need a different boot ROM. Contact ADS for this upgrade. There may be charges associated with this update.
Once you have a CE boot ROM for your system, do the following (note these steps, as you will perform them every time you want to change the CE build or persistent registry settings; these steps are also documented in the Windows CE Developer's Guide):
Insert the boot ROM in your system. Be careful to orient it the same as the one you removed.
Copy the following files to an ATA flash card: - NKLOAD.BIN (CE image) - ADSLOAD.REG and ADSLOAD.HWT for GC+32 You can download all these files from the Windows CE Developer's page
Set DIP switch 3 ON and others OFF
Insert ATA card and reset or power-cycle system After about six second, the center LED will come on and the outer two LEDs will go off. The system is copying the files to onboard flash. After 2-3 minutes, the outer two LEDs will come on again. Programming is complete.
Set DIP switches 1 and 3 ON and others OFF
Reset the system. When prompted, calibrate the touch screen.
You should then see the Windows CE desktop displayed. Your system is now ready to use.
