Debian Installer 2006-03-09 (Etch) Debian Ramdisk 2006-03-09 is a version of the Debian installer that can be used to install pure Debian or Debian with ADS modifications onto ADS boards. This installer can be used if you would like to install a newer version of Debian testing than ADS has released, or if you want to fully customise your Debian installation.
We do not recommend that most users use this method to install Debian, since it is quicker and less failure prone to use our prepackaged Debian root filesystem. See this forum post for details.
Debian will be installed to a USB hard drive connected to the board, and all contents of the USB drive will be erased by the install.
The following files are included in this release: bitsyXb/install_config.txt bitsyXb/tty_config.txt bitsyXb/root_config.txt bitsyXb/start.txt sphere/hw_config_16bpp.txt sphere/tty_config.txt sphere/root_config.txt sphere/install_config.txt sphere/start.txt vix/hw_config_16bpp.txt vix/tty_config.txt vix/root_config.txt vix/install_config.txt vix/start.txt MD5SUMS cmdline.txt ramdisk.gz README.txt cmdline_bitsyx.txt 700050-4105c.partno
Usage To use it, download the ramdisk.gz image from the link above and copy it to an ATA flash card. Also copy onto the card, the kernel zImage file for the kernel you want to use. This README.txt file provides more information on using the installer.
On the BitsyX, use this cmdline.txt.
On AGX, GCX and VGX, use this cmdline.txt.
To install Debian without ADS additions, in a fully interactive mode, edit the cmdline.txt file and remove everything from "preseed/url" on to the end of the line.
Boot the system from compact flash and proceed with the first stage of installation. If you are installing Debian with ADS additions, this installation process should be completely noninteractive. If you are not you will need to answer the normal questions related to a Debian installation.
After installation is complete, remove the compact flash and replace the cmdline.txt file with the cmdline.txt files needed to boot Debian from a hard drive. The files can be downloaded from the Full Debian Distribution 2006-01-27 release. Consult the README.txt from that release for details and additional information about using Debian on ADS boards.
Verification MD5SUMS provides MD5 checksums for all files in this release.
History The previous, 2006-01-27 version of the Debian Installer, no longer installs current Debian etch as of the etch beta 2 release. This new version, based on the etch beta 2 release, is updated to follow changes made in Debian's installer.
