What Do the Labels on the ADS Board Mean?

Standard ADS products carry two adhesive labels that uniquely identify the board and how it was produced. Pre-production and engineering units may have one or more additional "as-built" labels affixed.

The following is a guide to identifying and understanding the labels affixed to your ADS products:

Serial Number Label

The serial number label contains an alphanumeric sequence of digits that allows ADS to uniquely identify the board. This label is most easily identified by the barcode below the serial number.

We use the serial number in our manufacturing and inventory management processes. It is also needed to handle any returns for repair. Removing or altering this label voids the warranty on the product.

Configuration Label

The configuration label contains two numbers that uniquely identify how the board was built and configured.

The first number starts with "900" and indicates how jumpers were set and how the board was programmed and tested. The second number begins with "621" and indicates the components (or BOM, bill of material) that were used to manufacture the device. These two numbers uniquely define how the product is built.

The last few digits of both these numbers describe the version and revision level. For example, configuration number "900118-0157B5" indicates revision B5 of BitsyXb configuration 157.

As-Built Labels

In the process of developing the changes for a new configuration, the ADS engineering team may modify a standard system and apply an "as-built" number label to the board. The as-built number corresponds to an ADS document that describes the changes we made to the standard product. The as-built record can serve as the starting point for a production configuration in the future. One or more such labels may be affixed to a device in the course of product development.
