Abstract Embedded designs in instrumentation, medical monitoring and telecommunications are becoming smaller, more effective and more efficient. As part of this evolution, battery operated systems (or battery backup systems) rely heavily on leading edge system management techniques in deploying and conserving power consumption.
This paper discusses innovative "ADSmartPower" techniques utilized by Applied Data Systems in their 3x5" "Bitsy Plus" that maximizes its use of power, from partitioning the system in its use to deploying components engineered for minimal power usage. Collectively, the Bitsy Plus has been engineered to maximize the life of, and minimize attention to, batteries in an embedded application.
