When reading/writing to either the flash or the storage card under Windows CE there is a VERY NOTICIBLE screen distortion. Even using the explorer from ActiveSync cause the screen to distort.
Any idea what can be done to get rid of this?
I suspect that the issue has to do with CPU time being consumed with writing to flash and screen updates get starved.
It appears that the StrongARM is not able to drive a 800x600 display or the Graphics Master design is the problem. Changing the LCCR3 value does not eliminate the screen flicker when writing to flash. Raising the LCCR3 value too much causes screen flicker when the desktop is idle.
Just FYI, but if you're looking for larger than 640x480 screens the Graphics Master is not the right solution.
Keep in mind that resolution is not the only part of the equation. Color depth, refresh rate and other processor uses are also critical in determination of how the display will perform in a given application.
We are using 8bpp color depth. I don't know the refresh rate, the system was configured by another company. We're looking into the specs now.
We previously contacted ADS and asked about what displays ADS recommends. We were directed to Computer Dynamics and they set up the system. Are there higher resolution displays which ADS has tested with?
Thanks for your post, Tim. We do have solutions for higher resolution panels. Products like the Tandem, Display Master and Advanced Graphics Client include a separate graphics controller and support SVGA(800x600) and XGA(1024x768) displays better than the StrongARM.
The Tandem has been out for some time, and the others are out in preliminary release. If you are interested in higher graphics performance, please consult our sales group with your application requirements.
