Q: Can I use my ADS development system for Network Address Translation (NAT) or as a DHCP Server?
According to MSDN:
quote: Internet connection sharing (ICS) consists of a collection of technologies and services that make it possible to connect multiple computing and information devices on a network located in the home, a small business, or corporate branch office to the Internet through a single Internet connection. Computing resources on a home network include personal computers, video cameras, printers, scanners, and many other computing or home automation devices. For simplicity, this chapter refers to any resource on a home network as a "device."
ICS provides Internet access to multiple devices on the home network through a single Internet connection. ICS provides for this sharing of an Internet connection by allowing a device that runs the Microsoft® Windows® CE operating system to act as a gateway between the Internet and the home network. The gateway device uses one network connection for the Internet connection and a second network connection for the connection to the local network.
Windows CE does not support the services required to operate a full DHCP server. Windows CE does support, however, a subset of these services called the DHCP allocator. Windows CE implements the DHCP allocator as part of the ipnat component (Ipnat.dll).
All of the ADS MaxDX builds for CE 3.0 include ipnat.dll.
For more information about ICS and the DHCP allocator, see this MSDN page.
