I'm about to develop some sofware for the graphics Master.

I'm developing on a win2k lap top that has rs232, usb, and IrDA.
I've got Microsoft embedded Visual C++ 4.0 installed and
ready to go. I downloaded and installed ActiveSync.

At the moment no cables are linking the development computer
and the graphics master.

I ran ActiveSync on the lap top and it recognises all the ports including the irda.

I run repllog.exe on the Graphics master right after starting
Activesyncs connection wizard. However they two don't sync.

I guess the next step is to try null modem cables or a host to host
usb cable.

Have I misunderstood something or is this not the correct way to download new programs onto the graphics master?

When I connect the two by host to host usb cables the graphics master asks for a usb device name.... what is it?

Hi Brian:

You might take a look at the CE Developers Guide for details about getting started with CE and ActiveSync.

There is also a section about ActiveSync in the sidebar menu of the Support Portal. You can also reach the Support Portal by clicking the AppliedData.net logo in the upper left corner of this support forum page.

To quickly answer a couple of your questions...
  • You'll need to establish an ActiveSync connection by first connecting your system to a PC via an RS-232 serial cable or USB.

  • If you use USB, connect to your PC with an A-B cable. Host-to-host cables aren't supported by the USB standard.

  • eVC 4.0 is for CE.NET development only, and won't work with the CE 3.0 image currently loaded on your system. You can either reload your system with a .NET build, or load eVC 3.0 on your PC (see the links on the Support Portal)

  • Our records indicate you purchased a Bitsy. Make sure that if you're upgrading your image, that you use the one built for your system.

Best of luck with your development! We hope that you find these forums a useful resource for your work.
