Thanks for your post. The link was helpful. Generally you can't run computer systems directly from a battery, as battery voltage can vary significantly depending on charge level. The AGX requires 5V +/-5%.

If you used the lead acid cells you indicated (Hawker Cyclon Monobloc), there's no combination of 2V cells that would keep you within specs (e.g. 3x2V would range from 5 to 7.5V: 6V nominal, 7V float charged, 7.5V quick-charged and 5V nearly discharged; the 2x2V solution would range from 3.3 to 5V). Other battery solutions have similar voltage range issues.

The best practice for running from batteries is to operate through a switching regulator. The Bitsy family of products supports a wide DC input voltage with such a regulator.

For GC Plus customers, we have created standalone, regulated power solutions for running from batteries. The AGX uses the same power supply architecture, and would likely be compatible. Drop us a line with information about how you would like to use your system (display? backlight? how long on battery power? etc), and we can make some recommendations about which way to go.

Cheers, Drew

p.s. I've changed the subject line of your post from "Power ratings for AGX" to "Running AGX from batteries" for the benefit of subscribers and future readers of this post.
