serial port data causes BitsyX to suspend

I have a GPS device outputting the SiRF binary protocol connected to the BitsyX . Whenever it is connected to either COMM1 or COMM2, the power scheme set in the control panel seems to be ignored. For the "AC" scheme, I have all settings set to "never" so that I may debug my application without an interruption. However, whenever the serial data is coming in, the device suspends after 1 minute and I loose my active sync connection.

Is there some setting that will pevent this behavior?

Issue was taken off-line and we found there wasn't a problem.
