Converting from Windows CE to Linux

This topic describes the basics of converting an ADS system loaded Windows CE to Linux with U-Boot.

QUICK SUMMARY

Converting from CE to Linux u-boot consists of two steps:
  1. Reload the boot code:
    - Rename the u-boot binary file to adsload.rom.
    - Place it on a CompactFlash card and use the CE boot code to load the file.

  2. Load the new operating system.
Follow standard procedures for loading Linux with u-boot (ref: bootloader topic 521)

Warning! Most ADS products store the boot code in flash. Performing this procedure runs the risk of rendering your system unbootable. If this occurs, you will have to return your system to ADS for reprogramming. Charges may apply.
