Connecting from Vista to CE with WMDC

To connect an ADS device running Win CE 5.0 or 4.2 to a computer running Windows Vista, follow the steps below:

Power up the device

Connect the device to your computer with a USB cable A to B

You will see a " found new hardware" screen
If you had already installed/attempted installing a driver, you can right-click Computer, choose Manage and go to Device Manager. If the device appears under Mobile Devices, then use the update device driver utility.

Select the option to locate and install software

Click on Continue on the Windows permission request screen

Select Browse my computer for drivers software

Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my PC

Select Show all devices

Select Mobile devices and click Next

Clear the checkbox that says Show compatible hardware.

In the Manufacturer column choose Microsoft, and in the Model column choose Microsoft USB Sync and click Next

You should then see a Windows mobile device center screen where you can select either Setup your device, or Connect without setting up your device. A successful connection would be indicated by a green checkbox and the word Connected on this screen
