I can connect thru ttyS0 with login "root" and password "rootme", but I can't find a login/password to use SSH over ethernet. Any advise would be appreciated.

I tried those instructions, but it doesn't make any difference. The board acts as if SSH is started by default. Putty SSH client (using port 22) gives me the "login as:" prompt. I enter "root", then the prompt becomes "Using keyboard-interactive authentication. Password:". I enter "rootme" like I set up according to the link you provided, but I still get "Access denied."

Thanks for your help so far. I hope I can get past this password problem soon! I can still login using "root" and password "rootme" thru the ttyS0 connection, but I cannot SSH thru the eternet port. Do you have any advice?

I finally got it. I had to edit the sshd_config file to change the line "PermitRootLogin no" to "PermitRootLogin yes". Then it worked.
