What kind of hardware and software is required to build Linux kernel for my ADS system?
Note that this topic is out of date. See Getting Started with Linux on ADS Computers for more up to date information.
If you don't have a native development system (a computer system based on a Strong ARM CPU), you will need a cross development environment. You can use any x86-based Linux host with any distribution of Linux (RedHat, Debian, SuSE, etc.). If you don't have a Linux machine already, we recommend using a Red Hat distribution because we are using x86-based PCs with Red Hat. Some customers are using Debian and that works fine, too. We are currently using Red Hat 7.2, but 6.1, 6.2, 7.0 & 7.1 are all fine.

FYI,
I am using Slackware version 8.0, works like a charm. OpenBSD has some glitches with it, so I would not recommend it for this use.
