Q: What is the transfer rate from the Flash FX disk?
Reading from the flash disk is approximately the same as reading from the main (RAM) disk. Writing to the flash disk is slower because the flash must be erased before it can be written to. Algorithms to evenly utilize the flash (to extend its life) also take some time. You can expect to see transfer rates of about 770kB/min to the flash disk, with writes to the first megabyte of a freshly-formatted disk to approach 1.3MB/min. For comparison, transfers using the copy function in RAM will run 6MB/min.
Note 1: Transfer rates are lower if the ObjectStore memory size set smaller. E.g. A 2MB file transferred with ObjectStore size set to 256kB takes about 20% longer to transfer than if set to 12MB.
Note 2: Transfers of a single file may take less time than transfer of a group of smaller files that add up to the same size.
Note 3: The values shown above are for a Graphics Client running at 220 MHz with a 640x480 8bpp panel running at a vertical refresh rate of 72 Hz. Systems running at different frequencies, refresh rates or resolutions will have proportionately different transfer rates.
