Q: I want to leave the backlight turned on all the time without control from your systems. How can I do this?

The LS520 can be wired as follows:
 LS520 pin(s) Signal
------------ ----------------
1,2 +12V
3,4 Ground
5 On/off control; ground to turn on
6,7 Short 6 & 7 together, or ground 6 for maximum brightness

For further details, take a look at the Xentek LS520 datasheet (PDF 82kB).

For further reading about using backlight inverters with ADS products, see the backlight topic index.

Q: How can I adapt the connector you use on your development systems to do this?

The Taiyo-Yuden LS520 backlight inverters we use with our development systems have two control inputs that you'll need to tie to ground (as described above).

To do with with the backlight cable on your system, remove brightness and on/off control pins 5 and 6 from the cable (use a small pick to lift the plastic retention clip before gently pulling on the wire). Tie both pins to ground (for a quick test, you can use the grounded, plated mounting holes on ADS products).
