******>>> NOW IT IS A BIG PROBLEM:
after I push the reset button , the LCD display is blank, the output debug doesn't print out the messages.
(it happens the same when I turn ON/OFF the power).

I don't know what to do , and I need your help and advice to bring up the WIN CE 4.12.

Thank for advance.

Best Regards.

I've noticed a similar problem with both CE 4.11 (32MB) and CE 4.12 (64MB). Namely, after loading any new boot files (e.g., just replacing ADSLOAD.REG), neither "restart.exe" nor the reset switch on the personality board will work; they just hang the system.

For me, a power cycle DOES work. Thereafter, both "restart.exe" and the reset switch work properly. So, I'm using the following process:
1) update boot files
2) disconnect all power
3) remove ATA card with boot files
4) reconnect power
5) Subsequent warm boots via "restart.exe" and cold boots
via the reset switch now work.

#resolution

Nghia has the good fortune to be located near our offices, so we worked together yesterday to resolve the issues. There were a couple issues that we took care of:

  1. Error in the ADSLOAD.REG file

  2. The ADSLOAD.REG file (ADS #700114-17051) that we recommended for use with Bitsy CE.NET build 4.12 was correct. However, there is an error in the commented-out settings for 15 and 16MB CE images. Nghia used one of those entries, which resulted in the flash disk formatting over the Bitsy Plus boot code. We used JTAG to restore his boot code here. We've corrected the files (ADS #700114-17052) and have deleted the previous ones from the archives. Our apologies for the error!

  3. Reformat Flash when Changing Images

  4. When you change from CE 3.0 to CE.NET, or change image sizes on Bitsy Plus, you may need to low-level format the flash disk. Changes in flash disk driver versions between builds can sometimes prevent CE from launching(see topic 341). If you have a Bitsy Plus, the persistent registry feature may complain that the flash disk is interfering with the registry.

Thom's point about the Bitsy reset issue is also a good one to know about. Readers may want to take a look at this Bitsy erratum for details about why this happens.

Hi,

I get also this error message after I upgrade my Bitsy Plus to CE 4.12:

Warning!! Registry BackUp and FlashFx use same area.
Warning!! Please reconfigure FlashFX Start Address and Length.
Skip restoring saved Registry.
Invalid Registry Size.

How should I fix this, I saw that Nghia has try to reconfigure FlashFX Start Address and Length but failed. I so I have not tried that and if I should try that which values should it be on FlashFX Start Address and Length.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards.

Hans,

The messages you saw displayed have to do with the persistent registry store feature, as described in #2 of my post. Take a look at that topic for details.

Please try low-level formatting the flash using the "erase blocks of flash" option at the Bitsy Plus debug menu. Use "100000" (five zeroes) for the start address and "1000000" (six zeroes) to erase flash blocks between 1 and 16MB.

Then reload the CE image. When the system reboots, you should see the flash disk driver reformat the flash then launch the CE desktop.

Let us know how it goes.

We should make certain to note that when erasing blocks of flash from the boot menu, if you erase anything below 0x100000 (five zeros) you may destroy your boot code and have to send the device in to ADS to have it reloaded. Be very certain that your start address for erasing is not below 0x100000 (five zeros).

Hi again,

we odered a new BitSy Plus board which is preinstalled CE 3.14
I upgrade to CE.NET 4.12 successfully, but a FFX: FormatDisk<> fail!

I did low level Flash blocks format: start 100000(five zeros) and blocks 1000000 (six zeros).

What should I do now to format a FlaskFX Disk ?

Thanks

Hi Nghia. When you load your system with the CE files and restart it, the system should automatically format the flash disk the first time the system boots. You can also use \windows\erasefxdisk.exe.

A third option is to use the Storage Manager applet from the Control Panel.
  1. Select "DSK1: Datalight FlashFX Disk"
  2. Tap "Unmount"
  3. Tap "Format"
  4. Tap "New" to create a new partition

Hi Nghia.

Can you do us the favor of turning on the Hyperterminal "Transfer -> Capture Text..." feature? Reformat the flash disk as described above (using the debug menu), then reboot CE. Then Email us the Hyperterminal capture file.

Thanks!

I was having a problem similiar to this on some boards that I upgraded to 4.12. I'm trying to make sure that I don't have a problem with these units once customers have them.

Installed over Windows CE MS Tcpip [TCP/IP].
Can't Reorder under CEPreparing To Reoder Installed Chains
FFX: FormatDisk() failed!

CS4201 is Initialized.

The FormatDisk() line worries me, because I never have that on my new boards. On one occasion, one of the boards formatted itself at that point, after it had been booted and seemed fine 5 or 6 times. I can't have my boards erasing themselves for no reason. I did the block erase from 100000 to 1000000, but the problem persists.
Please help me in any way you can,
-Patrick
