Q: How do I connect to my Graphics Client Plus or Graphics Master development system with ActiveSync?
1. Connect the ActiveSync serial port of your CE device to your PC using a null modem cable. Serial cables are included with every evaluation system (cable drawings for the Graphics Client Plus serial ports are also provided on the ADS WinCE Developer's page).
2. Run ActiveSync on your PC. Select File, Get Connected...., then Next. The PC begins to scan for an initiating message from your CE device.
3. Immediately run \Windows\Repllog.exe on your CE device. The device will attempt to connect to your PC.
4. If it doesn't connect automatically, repeat steps 2 and 3. The PC's ActiveSync must be "listening" at the same time the CE Repllog application is trying to connect for the connection to be successful.
5. When prompted if you want to create a partnership, you can say "No" to speed up the process. If you are planning to connect using Ethernet (see below), you must create a partnership.
Q: Is there anything different for setting up ActiveSync for Bitsy?
A: The steps are the same, but the available ports are different. COM3 is the preferred port because the Bitsy companion board has loopbacks to the PC for DTR, DSR and DCD (JP2 and JP3). COM1 and COM2 do not have these loopbacks, which are required for ActiveSync to work. Additionally, COM2 on the Bitsy doesn't have CTS and RTS, which are also required for ActiveSync connections.
For more about ActiveSync on ADS products, see the ActiveSync topic index.

I know I read it somewhere on these forums, but what can I do to make activesync not drop the connection between my PC and the device? I can connect to the device just fine, but then it seems like after 1-2 minutes, I can still deploy applications to the device, but ActiveSync says it's not connected and I can't explore the device anymore. |
