Q: My Windows CE flash disk is the wrong size when I reload the OS.

It's possible to get into a condition where the OS formats the flash disk to the wrong size. This can especially occur when:
- flash is larger than the default expected by the bootloader/OS build
- flash disk is not formatted at the time of software load

Checking the Size

You can check the size of your flash disk by selecting it in Windows Explorer, then selecting File > Properties. Calculate expected flash disk size as follows: [size of flash, usually 32 or 64 MiB] - [size of OS build (typically 16-25 MiB)] - 2 MiB .

Preventing and Correcting this Issue

1. Prevention: First load the SYSLOAD.HWT and SYSLOAD.REG files onto the board (to override the default settings), then reboot and reload the rest of the OS files; OR
2. Corrective: Boot CE with SYSLOAD.FMT in the root folder of a CF or SD card to reformat the flash disk. This will erase all data in the "\FlashFX Disk" folder.

Troubleshooting

- If you are still having problems getting the flash disk to format to the correct size on a system with more than 32 MiB flash, make sure the [TAGS] section of your SYSLOAD.HWT file includes an entry for FlashFX_32M_Mult .
