There are many ways to cable serial signals out to a connector. Early standards used DB25 headers with an option for DB9. The current standard uses RJ-45, but a number of industry variations exist for that as well.
The following are links that may help inform your decision about which connector to use on your product. Pay close attention to DCE vs. DTE in some of the schemes described; you'll usually want the ADS-side sockets to be DTE.
