BitsyXb User's Manual (Rev A PDF 1.1MB)

The BitsyXb is a full-featured single board computer using the Intel PXA270 RISC microprocessor. The BitsyXb has the same form factor as the BitsyX. See the last chapter of the manual for a list of differences between the BitsyX and the BitsyXb.

Changes, updates and errata for this document will appear as replies to this topic as they become available.

Addendum: RL and UD resistors

Some displays support flipping the LCD display vertically and/or horizontally (see topic 485 for further details).

The RL and UD signals to the display can either be hard-wired in the display cable to the panel voltage(PNL_PWR) or ground, or they can be connected to the PNL_RL and PNL_UD signals.

The resistors for pull-up/down functionality on the BitsyXb are UD:R191/R192 and RL:R193/R207, respectively. The standard BitsyXb configuration populates the pull-up resistors. If you need to set one or both of these signals low, you can have ADS change the location of the resistors for your configuration.

This diagram (GIF) shows where to find the resistors on the rev A BitsyXb.

BitsyXb boards shipped before July 2007 do not include series resistors R117 and R26 that connect the I2C bus to connector J10. If you require this for your application please contact us.

#SSP_1k

Erratum: SSP Series Resistance

The synchronous serial port signals on J3 each have 1k series resistance between the header and the processor. Section 6.3.9 incorrectly states otherwise.

#EXT_IRQ3

Erratum: Mapping of EXT_IRQ3

The EXT_IRQ3 interrupt input on pin 35 of header J10 maps to GPIO99 of the PXA270. Rev 3 and earlier of the user manual state otherwise.

Addendum: Supplying 5V Power

As a factory option, it's possible to build a BitsyXb to be powered from 5V instead of 6-15V. However, the board must be built differently, bypassing/removing the 5V regulator and including a diode for reliable startup of the 3.3V switching power supply at the lower input voltage.

Likewise, the BitsyXb 5V plane can be back-powered through the personality board connectors. The BitsyXb should be modified in the same manner as powering from the power connector to ensure reliable startup of the 3.3V regulator.

In all cases, the 5V power must remain within 5% regulation, as USB and other ICs on the BitsyXb are powered directly from the 5V plane.

VEE Generator Dongle

The BitsyXb does not generate Vee voltages needed for passive panels like the BitsyX and previous Bitsy-family products did. Instead, it provides on/off and PWM signals on J8 to control an external Vee generator.

Eurotech can provide design files to qualified customers for such an external voltage generator. Dongle p/n 621118-3000 generates Vee voltages from 15 to 30 VDC when connected to header J8. Contact your sales representative if this design will be useful in your product.

Standard BitsyXbs Rated for Commercial Temperature Range

We have updated the specification for the standard BitsyXb to run in the Commercial Temperature range (0 to 70C), rather than Industrial (-40 to +85C).

Further details can be found in PCN 12001 on our Product Change Notice page.
