Q: Do I need Media Player to play WAV files?
No. All ADS builds have a built-in WAV file player. You can double-tap WAV files to play them, use the Sound applet in Control Panel or play them programmatically. The following code sample offers an illustration:
LPWSTR soundFile; soundFile = _T("Exclam.WAV"); sndPlaySound (soundFile, SND_SYNC);

It looks like Media Player is hooked up on our system and we have the "ON-board CODEC with a tPhilips UCB1200 for a speaker output and microphone". But, I don't hear anything when I play a .wav file. In fact, I never hear any sounds.
I guess I need to hook up a speaker. I was wondering where I would hook it up and what kind of speaker I would use to do this.
Thanks, Tom Dorgan. |

Hi Tom. You should be able to hook up an 8 ohm speaker across the terminals of J16 on the Graphics Master and hear sounds played. A few more details about the speaker driver are in the GMaster user manual. |

OK. That worked fine (2 years ago). Now, How can I get the same thing to work on the VGX? I think the manual talks about J10 but that sure looks like the PCMCIA slot...It also talks about L_SPKR and R_SPKR. Do I need a different speaker and different connectors.
Thanks in advance, Tom. |

Good catch on the VGX manual. Take a look at the correction we've posted on the VGX user manual page. |
